2014 has been a crazy year, to say the least. Throughout these 365 days of news, the OogeeWoogee fam has been doing our best to hold you down and keep you updated on what’s been going on across the globe. We’ve covered the good, the bad and the fucking weird, and despite the general public’s P.O.V. we’ve always been sure to keep it real with you.
Naturally, some people weren’t too happy with our honesty/opinions, and we may have pissed a few people off along the way, but that’s bound to happen when you go against the grain. While we appreciate those of you who have been rocking with us this whole time, here is a special shout out to those who we’ve rubbed the wrong way throughout this journey around the sun:
5. Kirb La Goop
Remember when internet-rap dude Kirb La Goop swerved on us when we tried to acquire an interview with him? We were shocked to find that he doesn’t do interviews for anything less than $100. The fact that he wanted to be paid just to converse with us (you know, that thing that humans do with their mouths on a daily basis) in an interview that could, and probably would, get him new supporters didn’t exactly sit well with us.
He wasn’t plexin‘ though…
Tank had a banner year. First, he insulted and pissed off black women across the globe, and then two months later he got mad at his fans for not buying his album and threatened to quit the music industry. While we think Tank made some valid points about the current state of R&B music, we still had to let him know that insulting a large majority of his fan-base and then being mad at them for not supporting his music probably wasn’t the smartest route to go.
Tank wasn’t trying to hear that…
The emoji really punctuated your point, thanks Tank.
3. Darren Wilson Sympathizers
One month after 18-year-old Michael Brown was murdered by Darren Wilson, we noticed a shift in the news. Reports about Mike Brown and Ferguson began to dwindle, yet no verdict had been reached and no new information had been given to the public. So we decided to give a detailed update on everything that was still currently happening in Ferguson, and while many people were appreciative of the information, a handful of folks were not:
Welcome to ‘murca.
2. Nicki Minaj Fans
Before the Fappening there was Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” video, which garnered more than 14 million views in less than two days thanks to a great marketing team and a variety of well-placed, slow motion, bouncing ass shots. But while the world seemed to love it, we weren’t exactly feeling it. Our intention was merely to encourage people to take the spotlight off of the over-sexualization of women in Hip Hop and shine it on some real role models. The barbz weren’t here for that though…
We know thats you, Drake.
1. Racist Roommate Supporters
In a year punctuated by racial tension, this story about a racist college freshman openly tweeting about her disgust with being paired with an Algerian American roommate caught our attention. The racist freshman (Makenzie Fuller) referred to her roommate as a non-English speaking Indian and she complained so much that she was actually granted the ability to switch roomies. The brave roommate (Roukaya Mabizari) later wrote a Tumblr post about the entire incident in which she forgave her racist ex-roommate for her actions. Unfortunately for Makenzie, one of our staff writers wasn’t so forgiving, and his response to the whole situation cumulated a glut of racially charged responses – so much so that we actually created a separate article for them.
Here are some of the best (or, rather, worst) responses from the bunch:
Well, that was fun. See ya’ll next year.
