Chris Simcox: Border Control vs Self Control

Well…this is interesting.

Considerably known militia man and anti-immigrant enthusiast, Chris Simcox was convicted of two counts of child molestation and one count of providing pornography to a minor in an Arizona court last Wednesday. Now, although child abuse is a completely heinous activity, my interest in this story lies with Simcox himself and what may have truly motivated his brand of vigilantism dating back to more than a decade ago.

Lets start at the beginning.

Chris Simcox was a kindergarten teacher (wtf?) for 13 years in Los Angeles prior to his involvement with co creating the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps in 2003.

Along with co-founder J.T Ready, the MCDC dedicated their entire existence to preventing illegal immigrants from crossing over borders into United States territories. Simcox, Ready, and all members felt the government didn’t concern themselves enough about securing our boundaries and thus, were doing a shit job at protecting them from illegals. Their movement spread amongst crazies in other bordering states of Mexico, who in turn began to spring up new chapters of the MCDC under the guise of local informants and not actual authority. Under no circumstances were they to ever engage in confronting immigrants. Consequently, this means they claimed to only be glorified snitches to U.S border control. But let’s be serious, I’d be a fool if I didn’t think these zealots weren’t out cracking heads whenever they got the chance outside of the watchful eye of authorities. This was way more than just some neighborhood watch shit, even though the MCDC was legally just a exaggerated version.

That shit was definitely known about. Multiple reports were made about their activities while on patrol, which finally led to the groups dissolution in 2010, after Simcox stated that he could no longer be held responsible when members of the MCDC failed to adhere to proper “rules of engagement” on the border.

“For eight long years we Minutemen played nice; yet for the past eight years we firmly expressed our opinions and desires for the border to be secured. This muster will be completely different. President Barack Obama and John McCain have left us no choice. This March we return to the border locked, loaded and ready to stop each and every individual we encounter along the frontier that is now more dangerous than the frontier of Afghanistan.”- Carmen Mercer, MCDC President.

This statement, was mailed to MCDC members just a week before the actual disbanding of the group. It also happened to be two years before co-founder J.T Ready walked into his home, killed his girlfriend Lisa, her daughter Amber, Amber’s boyfriend Jim Hoitt, and Amber’s infant daughter Lilly. All before committing suicide on the scene before local police and SWAT could arrive.

Let’s get back to Simcox’s creep ass.

The former teacher of preschoolers is facing 48 years of imprisonment for the part he played in the abuse of multiple children, one which was his own daughter. Not only that, but this clown served as his own legal representation, granting him the ability to cross examine witnesses, his eldest daughter being one of them.

Lindsey Raddich, now 33, testified that she had been the victim of her father’s perversions since she was a 10-year-old. While on the stand she recounted numerous incidents in which her father touched her inappropriately, the last time when she was 15 while on a camping trip. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but this marked the final straw for Raddich, causing her to remain out of contact with him for 19 years until seeing him in court that day.

Another two of Simcox’s daughters took the stand, but the younger of the two was part of the real reason why he’d been charged in the first place. Her name has been kept out of media coverage due to her age, but she attests that Simcox had molested her numerous times as well, once using a stick to penetrate her. Her age at the time was also not released to the press.

After all was said and done, 5 children testified against him and a judge found him guilty. He won’t actually be sentenced until July, but I’m forced to wonder if this was apart of a bigger scheme of Simcox to eliminate competition regarding his nefarious activities.

Right Wingers, like Chris Simcox are the bread and butter for campaigns like Donald Trump’s. He’s most famously called for an immigration overhaul and a giant wall that would prevent Mexico from continuing to send it’s less than upstanding citizens to American soil.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best, they’re sending people that have lots of problems…they’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” – Donald Trump

Now, Trump said this literally a year ago. However, you know as well as I do that this isn’t some new talking point. People have been saying this shit for years.

So I’m wondering if Simcox’s stance and eventual vigilant patrol of Arizona’s borders was extreme patriotism or an attempt to eliminate a perceived competition. I mean if the idea is that Mexican immigrants are criminals and rapists, then that would mean there’s less of a potential victim pool for himself and others like him to draw from.

Like “we’ve got rape and child abuse covered…build the damn wall”.

This of course may seem like some sophomoric attempt at humor. But allow me to give you some of Arizona’s recent statistics for child mistreatment. The graph below charts the number of substantiated Arizona cases of child abuse or neglect per 1,000 children compared to the national average from the 2015 Arizona Department of Child Safety Report.

“In Arizona alone, between 2010 and 2014, the number of child victims of abuse and neglect under the age of 17 more than doubled… This increase is alarming as Arizona continues to be one of the top states for child maltreatment overall.” – Yazmine Moore/Arizona Sonora News

As Arizona continues to be one of the top states for child maltreatment overall, as of 2015, the “red state” of Arizona ranked 46th in the nation when it comes to child well-being. This makes it the perfect breeding ground for predatory behaviors and a hotbed for flag waivers. It’s where Simcox was able to cultivate patterns of abuse, start a militia and run for senate (did I forget to mention that?).

This is a snapshot of the types of people who’re into supporting Trump, literally and figuratively. Right winged conservatives who want to “make America great again” and the very same people who fear the darkening of their once-“white is right”ness. Inevitably, the loudest voices who spout this rhetoric always seem to be the ones who have the most to hide.

I’m hoping that our fractured justice system does right in this matter and gives Simcox the full sentence.

I’m sure the mostly colored inhabitants of the Arizona Department of Corrections recently built $50 million dollar supermax prison would love to hear his stance on border control. However, they’ll probably want to discuss his issues with self control instead.

Child molesters are very popular in big house these days.
