“Hotline Bling” Covered Dylan Style on Jimmy Fallon

The reach of hip-hop music and culture has transcended to yet another level, after the legendary Bob Dylan covered Drake’s smash hit “Hotline Bling” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. OK, SPOILER ALERT: it was actually Fallon himself doing a dead-on impression with a killer band backing him up. Even the hugest Dylan fan has to admit how uncannily similar he sounded to the folk icon.

Regardless, the fact that Dylan covering Drake does not seem very far fetched is a testament to the great strides rap music has made in being accepted by other genres, cultures and markets over the years. “Hotline Bling” sounds pretty great in the traditional “Dylan-esque” style, and it’s far from the first time a hip-hop song has been reinvented by folk. Cheers to hip-hop breaking more musical barriers down.
