We’re back with another installment of Inside The Lines. This time around, we’re dissecting and depicting a couple bars given to us by, arguably, the greatest rapper of all time: Jay-Z.
“Jeff Koons balloons, I just want to blow up
Condo’s in my condo, I want a row of
Christie’s with my missy”
Jay laid down these lines in his infectious single “Picasso Baby.” In this record, he boasts his newfound love of modern art and the authentic joy he has for it, which is evident in his delivery and passion.
Jeff Koons’ is a contemporary artist who is most well-known for his chromatic sculptures made to look like huge balloon animals. Jigga uses his way with words to say that he wants to succeed in life and blow up like these balloons do.
Again, in the next line, he uses word play to say he wants or has George Condo’s work in his Condo. George Condo is another contemporary artist who has famously done the cover art for Kanye West.
In the adjoining next line, Hov says he wants a row of Christie’s with his missy [Beyonce]. Christie’s is a world renowned gallery with the creme de la creme of contemporary art. According to this line, Jay Z would like a collection that could fill up an entire block of galleries to share with his missy [Beyonce].
However, Beyonce is still probably the masterpiece he’s most proud to have in his home.
