Inside The Lines: We Ain’t Ready to See a Black President

In this installment of Inside The Lines, artist Michael White takes another of Tupac Shakur’s lyrics and brings them to life.

“And although it seems heaven-sent, we ain’t ready to see a black president”

Tupac passed in 1996; he never had a chance to witness Barack Obama being elected into office in 2008. Even then, in a much more “progressive” climate, there was still nationwide outcry against our President Obama. Matter of fact, throughout his entire career in office, there has been nonstop criticism and overtly racist remarks being made about the man residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The song “Changes”, which contains the specific lyrics depicted, was released posthumously and spoke about societal ills and how to go about ailing these matters.

Maybe the world wasn’t ready then, maybe we still aren’t now, but we were long overdue.

Artist from NEW YORK, I've dedicated my life to creating Art and letting my imagination lead me. Nothing is impossible, to be creative is to breathe beneath water.
