Rap Albums That Caused Slavery

The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chapter (now defunct) at the University of Oklahoma had a video surface showing a busload of students singing:

“There will never be a nigger SAE, there will never be a nigger SAE. You can hang him from a tree, but he will never sign with me. There will never be a nigger SAE.”

Morning Joe co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough placed the blame squarely on the influence of rap music, and what followed was sheer backlash and brilliant satire on Twitter with the hashtag: #RapAlbumsThatCausedSlavery.

According to ABC, students who were identified in the video admitted that the racist song was taught to them. Perhaps the viral response to the song is another lesson they’ll never forget.
